What is Daxxify™?
It’s not enough to describe Daxxify as a newer generation BOTOX alternative®. However, that’s often exactly how it is presented. Daxxify is a neuromodulator medication that gained FDA approval early in 2022. Its active ingredient is 150 kDa Clostridium botulinum type A. It does not have any accessory proteins.
As a neuromodulator, Daxxify is a lot like BOTOX. It works in the same basic way, which is to act as a neuromuscular blocking agent. When the drug is injected into a target muscle, it prevents the release of the chemical acetylcholine. This neurotransmitter is necessary for muscle movement. The cosmetic result of targeted muscle impairment is to allow overlying skin to smooth, eliminating wrinkles and creases.
How is Daxxify™ Different from BOTOX®?
BOTOX is the most well-known wrinkle reducer. This original neuromodulator, like most that have come after it, is made from human serum albumen. This is a protein that exists in the plasma, a part of human blood. Daxxify is not made from this base. Instead, Revance Therapeutics, the maker of Daxxify, has formulated this wrinkle-reducer using peptides. Being made from peptides instead of human serum albumen, Daxxify is a truly vegan product. While this can be an appealing characteristic for many patients, it’s not the only reason to consider Daxxify injections.
Why Choose Daxxify™ Over Other Neuromodulators?
Until Daxxify, neuromodulator treatments had an average lifespan of three to four months. BOTOX® and similar products can be repeated as often as every 90 days. According to clinical trials, the results accomplished with Daxxify injections can last up to six months. Presumably, this is due to the use of peptides to create the neurotoxin. In clinical studies, researchers found that approximately 80 percent of the participants who received Daxxify injections showed no wrinkles or only subtle wrinkles four months after their treatment. Six months after treatment, half of all study participants treated with Daxxify continued to enjoy only subtle signs of dynamic wrinkles.
What are the Risks Associated with Daxxify?
Based on the findings of clinical testing, few side effects are expected after Daxxify injections. Similar to other neuromodulators, this drug may instigate minor side effects like drooping eyelids, headache, and minor discomfort and swelling and injection sites.
