Learn What to Expect Following Your Surgical Procedure in Austin, TX

After undergoing cosmetic surgery at Austin Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, we want to make sure that you are not caught off guard or overwhelmed by the recovery process. To help our patients learn what to expect while they heal, our knowledgeable plastic surgeons have put together comprehensive post-surgical recovery guides for our cosmetic procedures.

Downloadable Post-Surgical Cosmetic Recovery Guides for Your Journey

Below, you’ll find links to our downloadable post-surgical cosmetic recovery guides. These are ideal to review before your pre-operative appointment with us. CosmetAssure Coverage

Included in every cosmetic patient's surgical fees with our office is CosmetAssure, a 45-day insurance that covers complications from all of the cosmetic surgical procedures we offer. Every elective surgery carries the risk of complications; CosmetAssure allows you to rest easy while you recover in the unlikely event that a complication occurs.

Post-Surgical Care Instructions

Typically, before undergoing cosmetic surgery, you should arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home after the procedure and, ideally, stay with you for as long as a few days. With most of our cosmetic procedures, patients can start easing back into their normal routines after one to two weeks. During this time, it’s important to get plenty of rest, stay hydrated, and maintain a nutritious diet. That said, the specifics of your recovery will depend on which surgery you undergo and the unique details of your situation.

After two weeks of recovery, you may begin gentle scar massage with a moisturizing lotion to help soften scars while healing. It’s also important to protect your incisions from sun exposure by applying sunblock to scars for the first year, as sun damage darkens and thickens scars and can penetrate bathing suits.

Please contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms while recovering from your cosmetic procedure:

  • Persistent fever above 101.5º
  • Rapidly expanding swelling under the skin
  • Spreading redness around the surgical site(s)
  • Pus in your drain(s)
