VI Peel

No matter how often you’ve cleansed, exfoliated, or moisturized your skin at home, you may still feel like acne scars, texture, and uneven skin tone take over the overall appearance of your skin. Luckily, with new facial treatments like the VI Peel, clear, rejuvenated skin has never been easier to achieve!

At Austin Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Christine Fisher and her team are excited to offer the VI Peel to patients looking to improve their overall skin complexion. To determine if a VI Peel is right for you, check out our FAQ below.

What Is a VI Peel?

A VI Peel is a medium-depth chemical peel that works to exfoliate the top layer of skin and penetrate into the layer underneath, allowing for the stimulation of new protein production. Commonly used to correct signs of aging, acne scars, and uneven skin tone, the VI Peel is a non-invasive procedure that lets patients achieve a radiant and clear facial appearance.

What Are the Benefits of a VI Peel?

Different from other chemical peels, the VI Peel is specifically formulated to be gentle on the skin yet effective at improving facial imperfections. This treatment can provide patients with many benefits, including:

  • Eliminating sunspots and discoloration
  • Removing fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scarring
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Minimizes signs of aging
  • Kills bacteria
  • Reduces oil production
  • Reducing clogged pores
  • Improving dullness
  • Treating keratosis pilaris

How Do I Prepare for a VI Peel?

Preparing ahead of time for your VI Peel procedure can lead to a smooth, complication-free treatment and recovery. Before heading to your VI Peel appointment, consider doing the following:

  • Stop the use of retinoids and exfoliating agents such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or benzoyl peroxide at least one week before your VI Peel
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for one week before your VI Peel
  • Avoid tanning salons
  • Avoid wearing makeup to your VI Peel appointment
  • Stay hydrated
  • Invest in gentle cleansers, moisturizers, and sunscreen for proper skincare after your procedure.

What to Expect from a VI Peel Procedure?

The VI Peel procedure is relatively quick and easy. The patient’s skin will first be cleaned. After this, the first layer of the VI Peel is applied, during which patients might feel a tingling or numbing sensation. As the second layer of the peel is applied, the skin may turn white as a result. While a burning sensation may occur for a short time, the whole procedure is typically painless for most patients.

What Is Recovery from a VI Peel Like?

Immediately after treatment, patients may notice their skin looking red, yellow, or darker in appearance. This is a normal side effect. Peeling of the skin typically happens two to three days after the procedure and can take up to six more days. During this time, patients may experience redness, itching, and flaking of the skin. Peeling skin should not be forced off but rather gently washed away during each facial cleanse with an approved cleanser. Following cleansing, patients should moisturize their face and protect their skin with sunscreen, as recommended by Dr. Fisher. After the peeling process is completed, patients can enjoy a smoother, more glowing complexion.
