Contour TRL Laser Peel

At Austin Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. FisherDr. Ehanire and Dr. Dumestre are well-known for their surgical expertise in cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. But our patients also love our assortment of non-surgical offerings, everything from injectables to face and body contouring, from chemical peels to the HydraFacial.

We offer a series of non-invasive laser treatments including laser peels. For those, we use the Contour TRL laser from Sciton®. The platform gives us great flexibility in the treatments we provide. With the Contour TRL, we perform the Nano Laser Peel, the Micro Laser Peel, and the Deep Laser Peel.

What is the Contour TRL Laser?

The Contour TRL is short for “Tunable Resurfacing Laser.” This platform from Sciton® is a dual mode Erbium:YAG resurfacing laser that can help patients address the visible signs of skin damage caused by the sun, environmental toxins, and the passage of time.

When compared with CO2 lasers, clinical studies have shown Erbium lasers produce fewer side effects such as hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation and swelling. The Contour TRL allows our medspa providers to set the penetration of the laser energy to different depths, creating the TRL Nano Laser Peel, the TRL Micro Laser Peel, and the TRL Deep Laser Peel, ordered from least to most aggressive.

Who Is A Good Candidate For A Laser Peel?

Watch the video below to hear from Katie Bertling, RN, LE as she explains laser peels and what a laser peel can be used to treat.

What Skin Conditions Can You Address with Contour TRL Laser Peels?

Our Contour TRL NanoLaserPeels treat:

  • Superficial pigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Acne
  • Dull skin tone

Our Contour TRL MicroLaser and DeepLaserPeels treat:

  • Mild to deep wrinkles
  • Persistent wrinkles around the mouth
  • Deep wrinkles around the eyes
  • Actinic keratoses
  • Pigmented lesions
  • Poor skin tone
  • Poor skin texture

Is There Preparation Necessary for a Contour TRL Laser Peel?

There isn’t any preparation prior to your session. But for pigmentation problems, you will have the most success with the most differentiation between your natural skin color and the color of the hyperpigmented areas such as sun spots or melasma. We recommend not getting much sun on the areas you’re seeking to treat for three weeks prior to your appointment at our beautiful offices on San Gabiel Street in Austin.

How Are Contour TRL Laser Peels Administered?

Our medspa providers at Austin Cosmetic Medspa perform our Contour TRL peels. For Nano Laser Peels, topical numbing cream is optional. Some patients want it; others don’t feel the need. With Micro and Deep Laser Peels, we apply numbing cream prior to treatment to ensure your comfort.

The first step is to set the penetration depth to match your skincare issues and rejuvenation goals. The Contour TRL handpiece is then held directly over the target area and is held in place while the computer-guided scanner directs the laser energy over the area at the set depth and temperature.

Treatments time is relatively quick, taking from 30 to 45 minutes depending on the area(s) we’re treating.

When Will I See Results from My Laser Peel?

Although individual results vary, most of our patients from across the Austin area see improvements in their skin’s texture and tone in about a week. From there, results build as the laser energy triggers cell regeneration and increased collagen and elastin production. This process begins in about two weeks and can last for months.

What Kind of Recovery Can I Expect after a Contour TRL Laser Peel?

Following a Nano Laser Peel and Micro Laser Peel, your skin will feel as though you have a mild sunburn across the treated areas. There will be some redness and possible slight swelling. This typically only lasts a day or two. You will have some light peeling after the Micro Laser Peel that will begin in about three days.

Contour TRL Deep Laser Peels feature deeper penetration. There will likely be some crusting and swelling of the treatment areas. This usually resolves in about a week. Redness can linger for a couple weeks, but it can be masked with makeup.

What Are the Risks Involved with Contour TRL Laser Peels?

Thanks to the excellent system software in the Control TRL platform, which continually monitors penetration depth, skin temperature, and various other factors, these are very low-risk treatments at Austin Cosmetic Medspa. As mentioned above, your skin will have some moderate redness and there can be some swelling, but this resolves within a day to a few days, depending on the peel depth.

The FDA approved the Sciton® Contour TRL platform for the various skin treatments we’ve described in July 2018. To gain that approval, Sciton® had to show clinical studies demonstrating safety and effectiveness.
