When Kristin’s boyfriend of five years proposed, she was shocked — in a good way.
“We had discussed and sort of dismissed the idea of getting married in the past,” said Kristin. “It really wasn’t important to either one of us, I thought! We were living together happily, he was an active step-father to my son, things were going swimmingly. So I always say that I didn’t know how badly I wanted to be married to him until he asked.”
Kristin and Matt chose to hold their wedding at a private residence in the Hill Country on October 21, 2018. Once a date was selected, the planning began. In addition to figuring out all the event details for the wedding, Kristin knew she wanted smooth, glowing skin to be part of her big day: “I wanted a fresh face for the wedding,” she said.
The Consultation
Kristin decided to make a consultation appointment with our aesthetic skincare expert Sandy Lanier, PA-C in early September to discuss options for minimizing her acne scars, fine lines, and deeper wrinkles, and to address sun damage and uneven skin texture and tone. Sandy performed a VISIA facial analysis scan for Kristin that analyzed her skin for wrinkles, scarring, sun damage, redness, hyperpigmentation, and pore size based on high-definition photos of her face.

First Treatment Appointment: Forever Young™ BBL and SkinPen® Microneedling
At Kristin’s first treatment appointment one month before the wedding, Sandy performed a combination Forever Young™ BBL and SkinPen® microneedling treatment. The BBL treatment addressed the red capillaries around Kristin’s nose and brown spots from sun exposure to reveal bright, even-toned skin. Microneedling, also called “Collagen Induction Therapy,” initiated the production of new elastin fibers and collagen to thicken Kristin’s skin, thereby reducing the appearance of acne scarring and wrinkles.
Said Kristin, “The red capillaries around my nose had vanished! After a few days, my face kind of peeled and underneath was this glowing, even skin. It was remarkable.”
Second Treatment Appointment: BOTOX® Cosmetic
Two weeks later, Sandy performed a Botox® treatment to Kristin’s forehead, crow’s feet (on either side of the eyes), and “11” lines (between the eyebrows) to relax the wrinkles in the upper half of her face. Because the active ingredient in Botox® is a neurotoxin, it is not advisable to combine a Botox® treatment with a microneedling or laser skincare procedure, as those can cause the neurotoxin to spread to other parts of the face. As such, these treatments were divided over two appointments. It typically takes one to two weeks to see full results from Botox®, and results typically last three to four months, so you want to be sure to time your treatment right if you have a big event coming up.
“The Botox® was my favorite!” said Kristin, adding, “My forehead wrinkles were gone, my ‘11’ lines were hardly noticeable, and my crow’s feet had basically disappeared. I felt amazing!”
The Final Touch: Dermaplaning
Four days before the wedding, Kristin came back for a dermaplaning session – a no-downtime physical exfoliation procedure that removes dead skin cells from the top-most layer of the dermis along with the soft hairs or “peach fuzz.” This allowed for Kristin’s wedding makeup to be applied evenly.
“The dermaplaning a few days before the wedding was the icing on the cake. My skin was so smooth and soft — no ‘peach fuzz’ or random chin hairs. I can’t say which treatment did the most good for my skin. I feel like the combination of all of these treatments made me into the beautiful bride I always dreamed of being. I felt amazing, gorgeous, smooth, sexy. All of the ‘little things’ that bug me about my aging appearance were resolved by my treatments with Sandy, and when Matt saw me walking down the aisle, I saw him start to cry and I know that I looked amazing for one of the most important days of my life.”
But perhaps the sweetest compliment came from Kristin’s 11-year-old son, Renny: “He said that I looked like a movie star.”
