It is common for women to notice changes in their most intimate areas that can affect the labia and vagina over time. Hormonal changes, including the drop in estrogen that occurs during menopause, can result in vaginal atrophy or a thinning of the vaginal wall. Beyond aging, childbirth can also lead to what were once considered irreversible changes, affecting women even in their younger years. For cancer survivors, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, or oophorectomy can cause hormone changes or early menopause. All of these developments can lead to vaginal dryness, uncomfortable intercourse, vaginal laxity, and urinary incontinence. In the past, women had to live with these changes as part of a process they could not reverse; today, there is a non-surgical option to address these changes with diVa™ vaginal rejuvenation.

Below, patient Julie shares her story with diVa™, the revolutionary laser device that treats vaginal tissue to increase collagen production and improve the tone and function of the vaginal canal.

I was first interested in diVa™ vaginal rejuvenation after hearing about it from my favorite BOTOX® magician, Sandy Lanier. Sandy is a physician assistant who specializes in non-surgical treatments at Austin Cosmetic MedSpa. I’m loving my 40s and want to continue loving the process of growing older, with slight tweaks along the way!

The consultation process was informative and reassuring. Sandy was patient with me, as I had several questions. It is important to have a consultation with Sandy prior to treatment, as she will make sure you are a good candidate for the procedure. She assured me I was an excellent candidate, and recommended a series of three treatments for me for maximum benefit.

The actual treatments are not as intense as they sound. Sandy applies a numbing cream internally that you let soak in for about 30 minutes. She then inserts the laser treatment probe, which gently rotates in the vaginal canal so that all the tissue in the area is treated. The process is customized for you, based on your age, concerns, and desired outcome. The only thing I could feel was a slight pressure in the area as the laser moved. I honestly was more nervous than I should have been.

After treatment, you may experience some light spotting for anywhere from a few to 12 hours. Sandy gives you a pad to wear home. She also tells you to refrain from sexual intercourse, vaginal penetration, and use of tampons for 48 hours. For about three days after treatment, I was a little tender, but that’s it. I immediately went to work after each treatment and was fine (I’m a hairstylist, so I’m active and on my feet all day every day). It reminded me of having a face peel—a few days of shedding the old to make room for the new.

The benefits I received were exactly the benefits I went into treatment hoping for. My partner describes it as “a tight grip.” So yes, I would definitely recommend diVa™ to all of my fellow ladies!
